FAQs

  • Do you offer a consultation first?

Many people like to have a consultation first to see if a therapist feels like a good fit. Whole Family Therapy offers a free 15 minute consult over the phone, virtually, or in person to be able to ask questions and learn more about therapy options.

Each 50 minute session costs $175

Clients pay at the time of their appointment.

  • Do you accept insurance?

Many of my clients use their out-of-network benefits and I can provide a form, known as a “superbill”, to submit to insurance for reimbursement.

  • What is virtual therapy?

With the rise of digital technology, virtual therapy, also known as online therapy or telehealth, has become an increasingly popular option for individuals seeking therapy. One of the main benefits of virtual therapy is accessibility and convenience. You can have a therapy session from anywhere with an internet connection, whether it's at home, work, or even while traveling. This eliminates the need to commute to a therapist's office, saving time and reducing stress.

  • What to expect

At the start of therapy, clients can expect a warm and welcoming environment where they can share thoughts and feelings openly. The therapist may ask about a client’s background, current concerns, and what they hope to achieve through therapy. This initial conversation is a chance for clients to express their goals and any concerns they might have about therapy. Through open exploration, clients begin the process of building a trusting relationship with their therapist, which starts a collaboration that can lead to personal empowerment and growth.

  • How often do we meet

Typically, someone might meet with a therapist once a week, especially at the beginning stages of therapy, as this frequency can help build the therapeutic relationship and provide consistent support. Some individuals may opt to meet every other week or even once a month as they progress and feel more stable. The therapist and client can work together to evaluate how often it is best to meet, since therapy is a personalized process and there is no standard that fits everyone.

Sessions are usually scheduled for 50 minutes. Longer sessions can be discussed in advance and would have a prorated rate based on length.

  • Is what I say confidential?

Everything said in therapy is strictly confidential and cannot be released without your written consent. However, there are several important exceptions to confidentiality: (1) reasonable belief that a child, elder, or dependent adult has been or is being abused, (2) if the client makes a serious threat of harm to another person, and (3) if the client demonstrates danger to self. **As a licensed MFT, I am a mandated reporter and legally required to report these exceptions to the appropriate authorities.
